Knitted lace shawls and scarves are perfect projects for those who want something small to carry but still provide a big sense of accomplishment when the project is finished. Kits use Blackberry Ridge 100 percent wool, lace weight yarn which is light and lofty, making a lightweight but warm shawl.

Designed by Hazel Carter especially for Blackberry Ridge yarns, these shawls are a pleasure to knit as well as to wear. Even though these look challenging, the patterns are written with plenty of details and charted for easy reading.

Knitting skills: Intermediate
Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch

Knit from the center back out and down, this shawl has rows of delicate lace patterns separated by rows of simple dewdrops. Shown in the picture in Natural Cream, it is also available in Natural Light Gray. If you prefer a dyed color, this shawl requires two skeins of Blackberry Ridge Lace Weight Yarn.
Tiger Eye (shown in the middle of the above picture)
Size: 48" X 72"

Knitting skills: Advanced Intermediate
Gauge: 6 sts = 1 inch

This shawl is knit from the bottom center up, gradually adding onto the patterns as the number of stitches increases. The central tiger eye is bordered on either side by lace diamond chains and twin leaves patterns. Shown in Natural Light Gray, it is also available in Natural Cream.
Violets by the River (shown at the right in the above picture)
Size: 41" X 51"

Knitting skills: Advanced Beginner
Gauge: 5 sts = 1 inch

This is a good first lace project to try. Designed with a Wisconsin theme, it is knit from the bottom center up, and the number of "violets" (the Wisconsin state flower) increase as the stitches increase on either side. They are then surrounded by a wavy river and honey bees across the top. This is a small shawl, perfect for throwing around your shoulders while reading in bed. The kit is available in Natural Cream or Natural Light Gray. An extra skein (2oz.) to make a larger shawl may be ordered for an additional $6.00. A version in silk can be found here.
