Blackberry History
Our Story
Blackberry Ridge Woolen Mill was founded in 1988 by Anne Bosch and Marc Robertson in the hills of Vermont Township, just north of Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.
The mill's equipment arrived from the East Coast on three flatbed trailers and was installed in a purpose-built building across the driveway from Anne and Marc's home. With a flock of sheep up the hill and dreams of wool, they began spinning yarn for shepherds and knitters.
Over more than three decades, the mill's story grew from those beginnings into a tradition of making high quality woolen-spun yarns for hand knitting. Anne and Marc's work laid the foundation for the Blackberry Ridge we carry forward today.
Continuing the Tradition
In July 2026, Sarah Best and Leslie Schroeder purchased Blackberry Ridge Woolen Mill. Today, the mill continues producing woolen-spun yarns in Mount Horeb, serving shepherds and knitters and beginning a new chapter rooted in its history.
We are honored to carry forward Anne and Marc's legacy and remain committed to the craft, the community, and the timeless pleasure of hand knitting with wool.
