This is a mitt knit from a batch of yarn that is a little special. For years, Hilary and Peter Wood raised sheep south of us near Blanchardville WI.

Their flock was somewhat unique in that it was a cross between Rambouillet and Finnish Landrace sheep which resulted in a relatively fine wool with just the right combination of smoothness from the Finn and spring from the Rambouillet. Sadly, they have both passed away, however, when they were alive and actively raising sheep, we spun a fair amount of the wool into yarn for them and their customers.

One year, we bought some of the lovely brown wool to make into some yarn for our own sales but never got around to doing that until recently (2025). It is a beautiful shade of sheep's brown and it beckoned me to make it into mitts or mittens!

It uses DK weight 100% wool yarn, 110 (125, 140) yards for sizes 7 (8, 8.5) inches long and 6.75 (7.5, 8.25) inches around the palm above the thumb.
